The Sources of Christian Law: An Introduction
Abstract
Christianity is the world’s largest religion that claims its diverse presence throughout the globe, especially in Europe. Its doctrines are centred on a belief in the teachings of Jesus Christ, his apostles and the church. Most Christians endorse the beliefs established by the seven ancient ecumenical councils (325-787 C.E.). Some basic tenets of the religion say that God is a trinity (the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit). Jesus was conceived by Mary while she was virgin. Being the Son of God, Jesus unites the divine and human nature in one person, and forgiveness of sins can be achieved through faith in him. Despite some major differences between the major denominations of Christianity, namely Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy and Protestantism, the common sources of their law are discussed in this paper.
